Ogun Police Crack Down on Yoruba Nation Agitators, Arrest Eight in Sango-Ota
In a decisive move to maintain law and order, the Ogun State Police Command has arrested eight suspected members of the self-styled “Democratic Republic of the Yoruba” following a series of disturbances in Sango-Ota, Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area, on December 25, 2025.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, intelligence reports indicated that the group was planning activities capable of disrupting public peace and threatening national security.
The suspects were intercepted after allegedly barricading major roads at Temidire Junction and the Under-Bridge Area, setting bonfires, and obstructing vehicular traffic.
“The suspects were engaged in unlawful assemblies, obstructing public movement, and even assaulting Police Officers who were deployed to restore peace,” DSP Babaseyi said.
“Our prompt intervention ensured that no member of the public was seriously harmed, and the situation was quickly brought under control.”
Items recovered from the suspects include a Toyota Dyna vehicle, two broadcast speakers, a carton of flags and shirts bearing separatist inscriptions, and banners linked to the group’s secessionist Agenda.
The arrested individuals were identified as Adewale Sosanya (48), Opeyemi Oladotun (31), Zara Gabriel (22), Ajoke Gabriel (19), Adewale Adebomojo (48), Yusuf Tanimowo (40), Olurotimi Ademola (52), and Toyin Gabriel (40).
They were taken into custody for questioning and further investigations, which are ongoing to determine if there are other members or supporters within and outside the State.
The Ogun State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and warned that any act capable of inciting unrest, breaching public order, or undermining National unity would be met with decisive action.
Residents of Sango-Ota and neighbouring communities were urged to remain calm and cooperate with security Agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
This operation underscores the Government’s resolve to prevent the escalation of secessionist movements and maintain peace, security, and stability in Ogun State and across the Nation.
