Ogun NUJ Mourns Passing of Lucia Onabanjo, Salutes Legacy of Iconic Onabanjo Family

The Ogun State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Chief Mrs. Lucia Onabanjo, the matriarch of the respected Onabanjo family, describing her passing as the close of a remarkable chapter in Ogun State’s social and media history.

In a condolence message jointly signed by the Chairman of the Ogun NUJ, Comrade Wale Olanrewaju, and the Secretary, Comrade Bunmi Adigun, the Union said the departure of Chief Mrs. Onabanjo represents a huge loss not only to her immediate family but also to all who were influenced by her life of dignity, strength and quiet service.

According to the NUJ, Chief Mrs. Lucia Onabanjo was a steadfast pillar behind her husband, the late Chief Bisi Onabanjo, whose contributions to journalism and public life remain deeply etched in the history of Ogun State and Nigeria at large.

The Union noted that Chief Bisi Onabanjo was a courageous and principled journalist who built a reputation for integrity, professionalism and an unflinching commitment to truth before moving into public service.

Global Mirror News gathered that Chief Bisi Onabanjo’s influence went beyond his personal career, as he mentored and inspired many journalists across Ogun State and beyond, helping to shape public discourse and raise professional standards in the Nigerian media industry.

His advocacy for a free, responsible and people-oriented press, the NUJ said, continues to serve as a guiding light for journalists who view their profession as a tool for national development.

The Ogun NUJ also commended the Onabanjo family for preserving and upholding the values and ideals of their late patriarch over the years, while maintaining strong ties with the journalism community.
