Ogun Mobilises Resources, Stakeholders for Statewide Measles–Rubella Vaccination Drive

The Ogun State Government has intensified preparations for the upcoming Measles–Rubella vaccination exercise, assuring residents of sufficient funding, logistics, and stakeholder coordination to ensure a successful statewide campaign.

The Deputy Governor, Engr. (Mrs) Noimot Salako-Oyedele, gave the assurance while presiding over a meeting of the State Task Force on Primary Health Care at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, ahead of the immunisation programme scheduled to run from January 27 to February 5, 2026.

Salako-Oyedele, who chairs the task force, said the State was committed to addressing all operational gaps that could hinder the exercise.

She noted that challenges identified in reports presented at the meeting would be brought to the attention of Governor Dapo Abiodun for immediate intervention, reiterating the administration’s resolve to strengthen primary healthcare delivery.

She called for stronger collaboration with religious organisations, Community Development Associations, Women Groups, the National Orientation Agency, and the Media to deepen public awareness.

According to her, the effective use of Social Media and influencers would be critical in reaching parents and young people across the State.

The Deputy Governor also commended the Ministry of Health and Development Partners, particularly UNICEF, for their sustained support, including the provision of ambulance boats to improve healthcare access in riverine communities.

She disclosed that funding requests for the campaign had been submitted and expressed confidence in their prompt approval.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, described the meeting as an opportunity to review the performance of the state’s primary healthcare system and harmonise strategies ahead of the mass immunisation exercise.

She applauded the consistent support of development partners, faith-based organisations, and community groups in strengthening healthcare delivery at the grassroots.

Presenting a performance report, the Executive Secretary of the Ogun State Primary Health Care Board, Dr Elijah Ogunsola, said the measles–rubella campaign would last 10 days and target children aged nine months to 14 years.

He noted that over 8,000 Health Workers would be deployed across Schools, Health Facilities, and Communities, describing the exercise as one of the broadest vaccination campaigns ever undertaken in the State.

Speaking on behalf of development partners, UNICEF representative Mrs Moloku praised the Ogun State Government for prioritising primary healthcare and aligning with Global efforts to eliminate preventable diseases.

She assured of UNICEF’s continued technical and financial support for the successful implementation of the campaign.
