Ogun LGSC Chair Applauds NIPR Masterclass On Crisis Communication

The Chairman of the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Ms. Olivia Olubukunola Onabanjo, has commended Ogun State Chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) for hosting a transformative masterclass on Crisis Communication and Reputation Management.

She gave the commendation while addressing participants during the closing ceremony of a two-day workshop held at Event Towers, Kuto, Abeokuta, where she described the initiative as a timely intervention that would equip public relations professionals with essential skills for navigating today’s fast-paced media landscape.

Represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Engr. Olanike Ogunbona, Ms Onabanjo noted that the workshop has created a robust platform for practitioners to sharpen their capacity in managing reputational risks and executing strategic communications in a digital-first era.

“Professionalism in public relations transcends titles, it demands a commitment to continuous learning, ethical standards and the preservation of public trust. This workshop has fulfilled its core objective by empowering participants to confront reputational threats with precision and confidence”, she said.

In her closing remarks, Ogun NIPR Chairman, Mrs. Oluwaseun Boye, appreciated the participants for their active engagement and reaffirmed the Chapter’s commitment to delivering more professional development programmes in the future.

Speaking on behalf of participants from Ogun-Osun River Basin Development Authority, Mr. Salisu Adeniyi, said they were deeply satisfied with the training, disclosing that they had been intellectually enriched and better equipped to handle real-life challenges by being truthful, strategic in planning and proactive engagement.

The workshop featured a series of technical sessions led by seasoned facilitators like Dr. Toyin Onayinka who introduced the Foundations of Crisis Management, while Mrs. Thelma Okoh addressed Crisis Preparedness and Risk Assessment, Mr. Tope Daramola guided participants through Message Development and Spokesperson Training and Mr. Segun McMedal tackled Media and Digital Crisis Response just as hands-on simulation led by Mr. Bolaji Abimbola, brought theory principles to life application realities.

ACC Abdullahi Maiwada who spoke on Long-term Reputation Recovery also enlightened the audience with cases and issues of crisis management, while Dr. Toyin Onayinka concluded the sessions with insights on Stakeholder Communication and Public Trust.

The Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Mr. Niyi Oduwole, expressed satisfaction at the array of resource personnel at the workshop, whom he noted had employed professionalism coupled with wealth of experiences to enlighten the participants.

He also appreciated the participants for their inclusive participation judging by the qualities of questions raised as well as smart and highly intelligent contributions given, advising them to employ the knowledge gained in the discharge of their duties at their various organizations.
