Ogun Honours Tinubu With Major Highway Renaming, Approves 50 Transformers, New Traditional Rulers

The Ogun State Executive Council has approved the renaming of the Sagamu–Iperu–Sapade Expressway as the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Expressway in honour of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The decision was taken during the latest meeting of the State Executive Council and follows an earlier announcement by the State Government to rename the Artery Bypass after the President during the commissioning of the Gateway International Airport and other major projects last Saturday.
The highway, which links the communities of Sagamu, Iperu and Sapade, is regarded as one of the key transport corridors in the State. Government officials said the renaming is intended to recognise President Tinubu’s contributions to National development and his long-standing relationship with Ogun State.
In another major decision, the Council approved the renaming of the former Aviation Village in Iperu after the late Oba Adeleke Idowu Basibo in recognition of his service and contributions to the growth of the Iperu community.
The Council also moved to strengthen electricity supply across the State with the approval for the procurement of 50 electricity transformers under the Light Up Ogun Project. The initiative is expected to improve power distribution in several communities and address complaints of unstable electricity supply in parts of the State.
To support Government operations, the Executive Council further approved the purchase of 20 Suzuki Grand Vitara vehicles and 12 Toyota Fortuner vehicles for public officials and administrative use.
The meeting also focused on traditional leadership and community governance across the State. Among the approvals granted was the declaration of the Olu of Odeda stool in Odeda Local Government Area.
The Council equally ratified the appointment of Prince Adeyemi Ibikunle Opeaye as the Oludotun of Idotun in Ikenne Local Government Area. It also confirmed Chief Yaya Oriyomi as the Olu of Mowe and Bashorun Peter Oluwole Ogunbayo as the Odemo of Ishara.
The decisions, announced in a statement signed by Kayode Akinmade, underline the Ogun State Government’s drive to expand infrastructure, improve public utilities and strengthen Local governance structures across communities.
