Ogun Govt to Daniel: Face Your Ward Suspension, Substandard Projects Can’t Continue

The Ogun State Government on Monday rejected allegations by Senator Gbenga Daniel that it halted his constituency projects out of political hostility, insisting the interventions were necessary because the projects failed to meet approved standards.

In a detailed statement issued by Hon. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Media and Strategy, the Government said it acted within its constitutional mandate to ensure that public projects, including those funded by the Federal Government, meet acceptable specifications.

According to Akinmade, an assessment showed that some of the road projects facilitated by Daniel in Ogun East were being executed with substandard materials and without adherence to Federal Ministry of Works requirements. He said contractors were therefore instructed to present proper engineering drawings and specifications before continuing.

“Those contractors who complied have since been cleared to resume work,” Akinmade stated. “A designated engineer from the Ogun State Ministry of Works has also been assigned to conduct routine supervision to ensure full compliance with approved standards.”

Addressing Senator Daniel’s recent suspension from the All Progressives Congress (APC), Akinmade emphasised that the State Government had no role in the disciplinary action.
“It was not the Ogun State Government that suspended Senator Gbenga Daniel; it was the APC in his ward,” he clarified. “The suspension was later ratified by the State Working Committee after he ignored the party’s invitations to defend himself.”

He criticised Daniel for directing his anger at the state government rather than addressing the allegations levelled against him within the party.
“That he is launching media attacks on government instead of facing the party that gave him a ticket shows a disregard for leadership and responsibility,” Akinmade said. “He is blaming everyone but himself because of his huge ego.”

Responding to Daniel’s claims of persecution by Governor Abiodun, Akinmade described the allegations as baseless and exaggerated, noting that the senator behaves “as if he is still governor and expects everyone to bow to him.”

He questioned why Daniel, among all federal lawmakers in the state, is the only one repeatedly involved in controversies over constituency projects.
“Why is he the only former governor constantly fighting against law and logic, and staging a pity party whenever he is called to account?” Akinmade asked.

The adviser contrasted Daniel’s “crisis-filled” tenure with the current administration’s relative stability.
“In Ogun State today, there is peace — unlike his period as governor when he was at war with members of the State Assembly and National Assembly,” he said. “Daniel just can’t deal with not being able to manipulate things to his advantage.”

He added that the senator “cannot be bigger than the party that gave him a ticket” and urged him to resolve his suspension with his ward if he “still values integrity.”

Akinmade concluded that the Ogun State Government would not be distracted by what he termed Daniel’s “tantrums,” insisting governance remains its priority.
