Ogun Govt Takes Over Prosecution, Refutes Claims in NYSC Official’s Case

The Ogun State Government has dismissed circulating claims questioning the strength of evidence in the case involving Abass Olalekan, a Local Government Inspector (LGI) with the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Abeokuta South.
Olalekan was arraigned on Monday March 23, 2026, before Magistrate Court 1 sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, on a two-count charge. He was subsequently granted bail, a development the Government says has been widely misinterpreted in public discourse.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade (SAN), clarified that the decision to grant bail was strictly based on the bailable nature of the charges and should not be construed as a reflection of the strength or credibility of the evidence presented.
The Attorney-General’s office also confirmed it has officially taken over prosecution of the case after receiving the case file from the Ogun State Police Command.
According to the statement, the charges stem from findings of a Police investigation which allege that Olalekan was in a relationship with the deceased, Victoria Olapeju Ariyo, who was reportedly pregnant at the time of her death.
The investigation further alleges that the defendant encouraged the termination of the pregnancy, recommended an individual to carry out the procedure, and provided financial support. The deceased was said to have died following the procedure.
The Government described online claims suggesting weak evidence and missing witnesses as “false and misleading,” stressing that the matter is still at a preliminary stage.
It added that issues concerning the admissibility and weight of evidence would be determined during the course of the trial, cautioning against speculation capable of undermining public confidence in the judicial process.
The Attorney-General urged the public and media to rely on verified information and allow due process to take its full course.
