Ogun Eyes 2,000km Road Milestone as Abiodun Administration Surpasses 1,600km

The Ogun State Government has revealed that it has constructed over 1,600 kilometres of roads since 2019 and is on course to complete at least 2,000 kilometres before the expiration of Governor Dapo Abiodun’s tenure.
The Commissioner for Works, Ade Akinsanya, disclosed this during an appearance on Sunrise Daily, stating that road construction projects are currently ongoing across the 20 Local Government Areas of the State.
Akinsanya explained that the administration met more than 4,000 kilometres of dilapidated roads upon assuming office and adopted a comprehensive infrastructure strategy to address the challenge.
According to him, the focus has been on enhancing rural connectivity, strengthening food security corridors, opening up economic hubs and improving access to schools.
“We inherited thousands of kilometres of bad roads. As of today, we have completed more than 1,600 kilometres across Ogun State,” he said. “We are not concentrating development in one particular area; construction work is ongoing in all 20 Local Governments.”
He highlighted key projects, including the reconstruction of the 70-kilometre Ota–Abeokuta road and extensive rehabilitation efforts in Ado-Odo/Ota, Ifo and Akute. Roads previously described as impassable — such as Ajuwon–Akute, Alhaji Kosoko–Akute and Yakoyo–Alagbole — have now been rehabilitated, easing traffic flow and strengthening connectivity between Ogun communities and neighbouring Lagos State.
The Commissioner further noted that work is advancing steadily from Ota through Akute to Ijoko, with several segments already completed and others at different stages of construction.
Also speaking on the programme, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, defended the Government’s infrastructure performance, insisting that projects are equitably distributed across the State.
He recalled that upon assuming office in 2019, Governor Abiodun pledged to democratise infrastructure development across all Local Governments — a promise he said the administration has consistently upheld.
“The 16 kilometres being mentioned in one axis is only a small portion of what has been delivered statewide,” Akinmade stated.
He added that multiple road projects have recently been commissioned in Abeokuta and other towns, stressing that infrastructure expansion remains central to the administration’s agenda, particularly in light of rising population pressures driven by Ogun’s proximity to Lagos.
Akinmade urged critics to take into account the broader scope of projects underway, describing suggestions that little has been achieved as unfair and misleading.
Both officials reiterated the Government’s determination to transform road infrastructure across Ogun State, maintaining that the 2,000-kilometre target remains firmly within reach before the end of the current administration.
