Ogun Declares August 20 as Isese Day Holiday

The Ogun State Government has announced August 20, 2025, as a public holiday to commemorate the Annual Isese Day celebration. This decision reflects Governor Dapo Abiodun’s commitment to promoting religious inclusivity and recognizing the vital role Yoruba heritage plays in the State’s identity.
In a statement signed by Hon. Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, the Government highlighted the significance of Isese Day. According to the statement, “Isese Day serves as an opportunity for adherents of the Yoruba religion to honour their ancestors, engage in traditional practices, and promote the values and teachings inherent in their spiritual beliefs.”
The celebration is expected to foster a sense of community among practitioners and promote appreciation for the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba tradition. The Government encouraged traditional worshippers to celebrate the day with moderation and respect for other religious groups, maintaining the state’s tradition of religious tolerance.

August 20 was formally declared a public holiday in 2023, following a motion passed by the Ogun State House of Assembly and approved by The Governor, His Excellency Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun, CON.
