Ogun at 50: Abiodun Declares February 3 Public Holiday for Golden Jubilee

The Ogun State Government has declared Tuesday, February 3, 2026, a public holiday to mark the Golden Jubilee anniversary of the creation of the state.
Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the holiday to enable residents to fully participate in activities commemorating Ogun State’s 50 years of existence. The declaration was conveyed in a statement issued on Monday by the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi.
According to the statement, the anniversary represents five decades of Ogun State’s political journey, sustained growth, and notable contributions to Nigeria’s overall development.
The government urged citizens to celebrate the historic milestone in an atmosphere of unity, peace, and shared purpose, while reaffirming its resolve to build on past achievements and fast-track developmental initiatives across the state.
Talabi noted that the governor encouraged residents to make effective use of the public holiday by actively engaging in the various programmes lined up for the celebration of the Gateway State at 50.
Ogun State was created on February 3, 1976. The Golden Jubilee celebration features a series of commemorative activities aimed at reflecting on the state’s history, celebrating its present accomplishments, and projecting a bold and prosperous future.
