Ogun @ 50: Hon. Balogun Leads Abeokuta South Carnival, Reaffirms Commitment to Inclusive Grassroots Development

Abeokuta South Local Government on Friday February 6, lit up with culture, colour and celebration as part of activities marking the Golden Jubilee of Ogun State, with the Council Chairman, Hon. Balogun Olaniyi Afeez (BOA), taking centre stage to reaffirm his administration’s commitment to people-focused and inclusive development.

The colourful cultural carnival and road show swept through major streets of Abeokuta South, drawing residents, cultural groups, party leaders and community stakeholders into a vibrant display of unity, heritage and shared identity in celebration of Ogun State at 50.

Speaking at a reception held at the Skating Ground, Panseke, Abeokuta, Hon. Balogun described the carnival as a symbol of Ogun State’s enduring cultural richness and the organisational strength of Abeokuta South Local Government. He commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for what he described as visionary leadership that has continued to steer the State toward sustainable growth and development.
Reflecting on his administration’s achievements, the chairman disclosed that 2025 recorded significant infrastructural progress across the Local Government, assuring residents that even more impactful projects would be delivered in 2026.
“Ogun State at 50 represents resilience, unity and sustained development. By the Grace of God, we will celebrate the 60th, 70th, 80th Anniversaries and beyond,” Balogun said.

He stressed that the projects executed so far were only the foundation of a broader development agenda aimed at improving the daily lives of residents.
“What our people witnessed last year is just the tip of the iceberg. We have installed streetlights, rehabilitated public toilets and sunk boreholes across major markets and communities. This year, we are rolling out additional projects, including the rehabilitation of the Madojitimi–Asero Road,” he added.

Hon. Balogun reiterated that his administration’s guiding philosophy, “Everyone Matters,” would continue to shape governance, noting that the welfare and well-being of residents remain at the heart of policy decisions.

A political highlight of the celebration was the formal reception of popular broadcaster Ayinla Egba into the All Progressives Congress (APC), an event that attracted attention from party supporters and guests.

The carnival procession commenced from the Abeokuta South Local Government Secretariat, passed through Ake, Sapon and Omida, and culminated at the Skating Ground, Panseke, where cultural displays, live performances and music entertained attendees.
Dignitaries at the event included former and serving Party leaders in Abeokuta South led by Chief Lemboye and Chief Henry Fagbenro, as well as Hon. Olufemi Ilori, Hon. Wasiu Igbalaye (Member representing Abeokuta South Constituency II), Hon. Lukmon Atobatele (Member representing Abeokuta South Constituency I), Hon. Bukola Olopade, Director-General of Sports, Rt. Hon. Titi Oseni, the Vice Chairman, Chief (Mrs.) Oluranti Ogunjemilusi-Ogunmokun, Leader of the Legislative House, Hon Jamiu Ogundairo, HOLGA,Mrs Olufunmilayo Shoberu and other Political, Community Leaders and Career Officers.
