UAD Petitions Lawmakers Over LASUSTECH VC
A Civil Society Group, United Action for Democracy (UAD), has petitioned the House of Representatives Committee on Education to intervene in the alleged N2 Billion financial scandal rocking the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH).
The Group is calling for the immediate suspension of the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, pending the outcome of ongoing investigations into serious allegations of corruption and abuse of office.
According to the petition dated August 13, 2025, and signed by UAD’s General Secretary, Kunle Wizeman Ajayi, the allegations include gross violation of the Lagos State Procurement Law, collusion with Internal University Officials to inflate contracts and divert funds, misuse of LASUSTECH’s Wema Bank account for suspicious transactions, and diversion of funds meant for academic accreditation and institutional growth.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) are currently investigating these allegations. Despite the gravity of the issues, Professor Odusanya remains in office, presiding over Institutional operations
The UAD is demanding that the House Committee on Education convene a public hearing to amplify National attention and scrutiny on the allegations. The group also wants the Lawmakers to engage directly with the Governor of Lagos State, urging him to immediately suspend Professor Odusanya pending the outcome of investigations.
“This petition specifically seeks the intervention of your distinguished
Committee, under your leadership as a Lagos State indigene and legislator,
to engage the Executive Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola
Sanwo-Olu, to take decisive action in suspending the Vice-Chancellor of
LASUSTECH, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, pending the outcome of
ongoing investigations into serious allegations of corruption and abuse of office”. Read the Petition.
Furthermore, the UAD is calling for a forensic audit of LASUSTECH’s finances for the past three years to uncover the extent of the alleged financial misappropriation. The group also wants the Committee to ensure that whistleblower protection measures are activated for staff and students who have come forward with credible information.
The UAD expressed concerns that the continued stay of Professor Odusanya in office constitutes a moral, legal, and institutional threat, and risks igniting unrest among concerned stakeholders. The group believes that the situation at LASUSTECH is unsustainable and constitutes a dangerous precedent if left unaddressed.
The outcome of this petition will have significant implications for the education sector in Nigeria. If the lawmakers intervene and Professor Odusanya is suspended, it will send a strong message about the importance of accountability and transparency in public institutions. However, if the Committee fails to act, it may embolden other Vice-Chancellors to engage in similar malpractices.
“Your leadership and timely intervention could mark a turning point in
rescuing LASUSTECH from a crisis that now threatens its future, reputation,
and contribution to science and technology education in Nigeria.
We trust that you will give this matter the urgent legislative attention it
deserves.” Explained UAD
The House Committee on Education will likely review the petition and decide on the next course of action. Stakeholders in the education sector are eagerly awaiting the outcome, hoping that the lawmakers will take decisive action to address the crisis at LASUSTECH.
