NYSC LG Inspector Docked Over Alleged Abortion Plot Linked to Corps Member’s Death

A Local Government Inspector (LGI) of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Abeokuta South Local Government Area of Ogun State, Abbas Olalekan, has been arraigned before an Isabo Magistrates’ Court over allegations bordering on conspiracy and an attempt to procure abortion.
Global Mirror News gathered that Olalekan, who resides in the Mosafueto Area of Oke-Ata, Abeokuta, is facing a two-count charge involving conspiracy and the unlawful attempt to terminate a pregnancy through the supply of drugs.
The case is reportedly linked to the death of a female corps member, identified simply as Ariyo, who allegedly passed away about two weeks ago following complications related to pregnancy.
Sources cited by Global Mirror News alleged that the defendant was in a romantic relationship with the deceased, which resulted in a pregnancy. The situation reportedly culminated in a termination attempt that allegedly contributed to her death.
At his arraignment on Monday, Olalekan pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Inspector Lawrence Olu-Balogun, told the court that the offences were committed between January and March 2026 at the Ikereku Area in Laderin, Abeokuta. He alleged that the defendant conspired with individuals still at large to carry out the act.
According to the prosecution, Olalekan, a serving NYSC official, allegedly supplied abortion-inducing drugs to the deceased corps member after impregnating her. The prosecutor further claimed that the administration of these drugs led to her death.
The offences, he said, contravene Sections 516 and 230 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
Counsel to the defendant, Mrs. Bunmi Adelabu, urged the court to grant her client bail on liberal terms, citing his constitutional right to presumption of innocence as enshrined in Section 36(5) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). She also argued that the charge did not directly establish her client’s responsibility for the death of the deceased.
In her ruling, the Magistrate, Mrs. A.K. Araba, granted the defendant bail in the sum of ₦500,000 with two sureties in like sum. She stipulated that one of the sureties must be a blood relative, while the other must be gainfully employed.
The court further directed that the sureties must present a valid utility bill, swear to an affidavit of means, submit six passport photographs, and provide evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government for 2026.
Pending the fulfillment of the bail conditions, the defendant was ordered to be remanded at the Ibara Correctional Centre.
The case has been adjourned until April 14, 2026, for further hearing.
