No Name Match, No Camp: NYSC Sends Strong Message To Prospective Corps Members

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has warned prospective corps members to ensure that the names on their academic certificates, statements of result and NYSC registration details are exactly the same before reporting to orientation camp.

Global Mirror News gathered that the warning comes ahead of the next Nationwide mobilisation exercise as thousands of graduates prepare for registration and deployment.

According to the scheme, any discrepancy between the name on a prospective corps member’s call-up letter and the name appearing on his or her academic certificate may lead to serious complications during camp registration.

The NYSC explained that prospective corps members must carefully check the spelling, arrangement and sequence of their names before completing their online registration.

The scheme noted that while minor corrections such as spelling mistakes and rearrangement of names can still be done on the NYSC portal during registration, no candidate will be allowed to add or remove a name after registration has been completed.

Global Mirror News further gathered that candidates who discover that they need to add or remove a name are expected to stop their registration process immediately and return to their institution to correct the issue before proceeding.

The NYSC said the names uploaded on its portal are obtained directly from the Senate-approved or Academic Board-approved lists submitted by Institutions through their Student Affairs Officers.

The Agency warned that any unresolved discrepancy may prevent affected prospective corps members from being registered at the orientation camp.

The scheme also explained that incorrect names may create further challenges beyond camp registration, including problems with monthly allowance processing, identity verification and the eventual issuance of the Certificate of National Service.

According to NYSC officials, errors in names on service documents could later affect job applications, postgraduate admissions and other official processes where the NYSC certificate may be required.

Prospective corps members were therefore advised to log into the NYSC portal, review every detail carefully and make the necessary corrections before the commencement of the orientation exercise.

The NYSC stressed that only candidates whose names are consistent across all official documents would be allowed to complete the registration process without difficulty.
