NO BREAKTHROUGH: Ogun State Govt, Labour Leaders Fail to Reach Agreement Amid Strike

A high-stakes meeting between the Ogun State Government, led by Governor Dapo Abiodun, and leaders of the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Ogun State has ended without a breakthrough.
The meeting, which was held to discuss the ongoing industrial action by workers in the State, failed to yield any agreement as Labour leaders maintained their demand for the implementation of a New Minimum Wage and other benefits.
According to sources, the deadlock stems from the Government’s reluctance to meet the Unions’ demands, citing financial constraints. Labour leaders, however, insist that the demands are non-negotiable and have vowed to continue the strike until their grievances are addressed.
The strike has paralyzed Government activities and services across Ogun State, with workers refusing to return to work until their demands are met. The impasse has left residents and stakeholders in a state of uncertainty, wondering when normalcy will return.
The Labour Leaders have expressed disappointment with the Government’s stance, stating that the meeting was an opportunity for the Government to demonstrate its commitment to the welfare of workers. With the strike entering its 4 day, the pressure mounts on both parties to find a resolution.
As the stalemate continues, residents are advised to remain patient and prepared for the duration of the strike. The outcome of this impasse remains to be seen, but one thing is certain – the workers will not back down without a fight.
The Unions are set to reconvene and discuss their next line of action following the failed negotiations. For now, the strike remains in effect, with no end in sight.
