…urges citizens’ support in Nation building

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has said Nigeria is undergoing a rebirth under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who has shown the courage to make bold decisions that past leaders avoided.

Speaking at the 65th Independence Anniversary celebration held on Wednesday at the June 12 Cultural Centre, Kuto, Abeokuta.

Abiodun described the President’s economic blueprint as a reflection of the urgent needs of Nigerians in line with global realities of the 21st century.

The Governor stressed that Nation building cannot be left to the Government alone, urging all citizens to contribute irrespective of religion, ethnicity, or political leanings.

“The theme of this year’s celebration, ‘All Hands on Deck for a Greater Nation,’ is timely and instructive. Building a stronger Nigeria is not the sole responsibility of Government; it is a collective duty of every Nigerian at home and abroad,” he said.

Abiodun added that Ogun State remains a proud contributor to Nigeria’s progress, noting that its history and that of the Nation are intertwined through the struggles of its forebearers.

He maintained that his administration has moved beyond mere campaign promises, implementing projects that reflect action and accountability.

The Governor described the Independence celebration as not just a marker of time but an opportunity to reaffirm the collective resolve to pursue freedom, unity, and prosperity envisioned by the nation’s founding fathers.

He emphasized that democracy remains Nigeria’s strongest pathway to stability and inclusive development, despite current economic challenges.

Other dignitaries at the event also lent their voices.

Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Oludaisi Elemide, said Nigeria’s challenges signify growth, urging citizens to act responsibly instead of complaining.

Chief Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu called for prayers for the Nation, insisting that Nigeria is close to overcoming its difficulties.

Former Military Governor of Ogun State, Major-General Seidu Balogun (rtd), commended successive administrations for building the State into an industrial hub.

On behalf of traditional rulers, the Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas and Akarigbo of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, advised Nigerians to stop cursing the Country and instead pray for its recovery.

Similarly, the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, said the Nation would attain greatness if the people remained united and positive.

Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Tokunbo Talabi, in his remarks, explained that the celebration was an opportunity to thank God for His mercy on the Nation as it marked 65 years of independence.
