Niger Police Arrest Robbers, Free Kidnapped Women, Children

The Niger State Police Command has made notable strides in its efforts to reduce crime across the State, successfully arresting several suspects, retrieving stolen property, and rescuing abducted victims, including women and children.

According to a crime report released on Wednesday, officers apprehended two individuals linked to a November 12 armed robbery in the Gurara area of Minna.

During that incident, the suspects allegedly stole a laptop, phones, and other valuables worth more than ₦758,000. The stolen items were recovered and the suspects have been charged in court.

In a separate operation, four people were arrested for conspiracy, theft, and receiving stolen goods after groundnut oil was reportedly taken from a shop at the Kasuwan‑Gwari Market.

Police also arrested two suspected phone snatchers in Bosso Local Government Area and recovered the stolen handsets.

Another suspect was detained in connection with an attempted murder and armed robbery in Maje, where a commercial motorcyclist was attacked and his bike taken; efforts are ongoing to arrest accomplices.

In a significant rescue development, two young women abducted from Kubwa in the Federal Capital Territory were found abandoned along the Abuja‑Kaduna Expressway.

They were reportedly drugged but have since received medical care and been reunited with their families.

The Police also recovered three children, aged between one and 13, in a follow‑up investigation into a child trafficking syndicate.

All rescued children have been returned to their parents, and additional suspects linked to the trafficking ring have been charged.

SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Niger State Command, reiterated the force’s commitment to protecting lives and property, urging community members to provide timely and credible information to aid ongoing security operations.
