Newlywed Wife Arrested for Allegedly Poisoning Husband in Jigawa

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a newlywed woman over the alleged poisoning of her husband, who reportedly died after consuming a meal prepared by her in Gauza village, Jahun Local Government Area of the State.

Global Mirror News gathered that the incident occurred on FridayJanuary 23, 2026, at about 5:00 p.m.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam, the deceased took his lunch at home and shortly afterward fell critically ill.

He was rushed to a hospital for urgent medical attention but was pronounced dead while receiving treatment.

Following the report, detectives from the Jahun Police Division commenced an investigation and subsequently arrested the wife of the deceased as the prime suspect.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to lacing her husband’s food with rat poison. She further claimed that she had sent her cousin to procure the substance used.

The Police spokesperson disclosed that the suspect told investigators she was forced into the marriage by her parents, a situation she alleged contributed to her actions.

SP Adam added that the Commissioner of Police has ordered the transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for a comprehensive investigation.

He noted that upon the conclusion of the probe, the suspect would be charged to court for prosecution.

Meanwhile, the Jigawa State Police Command has appealed to residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and to seek lawful means of resolving family and marital disputes.

The command warned against taking the law into one’s hands, stressing that such actions often lead to irreversible consequences.

The Police assured the public of their commitment to justice and the protection of lives and property across the State, noting that the suspect remains in custody pending the outcome of investigations and subsequent trial.
