Nephew, Two Others Arrested Over Killing of Kano Housewife, Six Children

Operatives of the Kano State Police Command have arrested three suspects, including a nephew of the deceased, in connection with the killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters of Kano metropolis.

Global Mirror News gathered that the arrests were made less than 24 hours after the tragic incident, following an intelligence-led operation directed by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and personally supervised by the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori.

The prime suspect, identified as Umar Auwalu, 23, is said to be a nephew of the deceased woman. Two other suspects — Isyaku Yakubu, also known as Chebe, aged 40, and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly called Wawo, aged 21 — were also apprehended during a sting operation carried out between the late hours of Friday and the early hours of Saturday December 17, 2025.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects reportedly confessed to their involvement in the crime during preliminary interrogation.

According to the Police, the suspects were arrested after actionable intelligence led operatives to their hideouts.

The Police spokesperson disclosed that items recovered from the suspects included blood-stained clothing, mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a club, and some cash allegedly taken from the residence.

CSP Kiyawa further revealed that the lead suspect also admitted involvement in other violent crimes within Kano metropolis, adding that investigations were ongoing to establish the full extent of the syndicate’s activities.

Residents of Dorayi Chiranchi described the incident as shocking and unprecedented in the Area. A community member told Global Mirror News that the neighbourhood was thrown into panic when neighbours raised alarm in the early hours after discovering the incident.

The Police confirmed that the victims — identified as Fatima Abubakar, 35, and her six children — were taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, where they were confirmed dead.

Following the development, the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department, ACP Wada Jarma, has been directed to conduct a comprehensive investigation to ensure that all those involved are brought to justice.

The Kano State Police Command assured residents that security had been reinforced in the area and urged members of the public to remain calm while cooperating with Law Enforcement Agencies as investigations continue.
