NECO Releases 2025 SSCE Results, Records Sharp Drop in Exam Malpractice

The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2025 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) for internal candidates, announcing a remarkable decline in examination malpractice cases compared to last year.

At a press briefing held on Thursday in Minna, the Registrar and Chief Executive of NECO, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, disclosed that a total of 1,367,210 candidates registered, out of which 1,358,339 sat for the examinations conducted nationwide.

According to him, 818,492 candidates, representing 60.26%, secured five credits including English Language and Mathematics. Meanwhile, 1,144,496 candidates (84.26%) obtained five credits and above regardless of English and Mathematics.

Wushishi noted that this year’s performance shows not only academic progress but also a significant victory against examination malpractice. He revealed that 3,878 cases of malpractice were recorded in 2025, marking a 61.58% reduction from the 10,094 cases reported in 2024.

“This sharp drop is a testament to NECO’s strengthened monitoring system, increased collaboration with security agencies, and the unwavering commitment of stakeholders in the education sector,” he said.

Sanctions for Schools and Supervisors
The Registrar further announced that 38 schools across 13 states were implicated in widespread cheating and will face sanctions. In addition, nine supervisors drawn from Rivers, Niger, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kano, and Osun states were found guilty of compromising examination standards and will be blacklisted.

In a related development, the results of eight schools in Lamorde Local Government Area of Adamawa State have been withheld following disruptions caused by communal clashes during the examination period.

Commitment to Credibility
Prof. Wushishi reaffirmed NECO’s commitment to transparency and credibility in Nigeria’s educational system, stressing that the Council will continue to deploy technology and innovative strategies to curb exam irregularities.

He expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Federal Ministry of Education for providing the necessary support to strengthen NECO’s operations.

“This year’s results reflect the Council’s dedication to delivering credible examinations that can stand the test of time, both nationally and internationally,” he added.

How Candidates Can Check Results
Candidates are advised to check their results via the official NECO website using their registration numbers and result tokens.

The 2025 SSCE internal examination was conducted between June and July across all states of the federation and the FCT.

With the latest figures, NECO says it is optimistic that sustained reforms will not only improve students’ academic outcomes but also restore public confidence in Nigeria’s examination system.
