NCC Shuts Down Illegal .ng Websites
The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has intensified its fight against online piracy by securing the suspension of several .ng domain names involved in the illegal distribution of copyrighted music and other creative works.
The enforcement, carried out with the Nigerian Internet Registration Association (NiRA) and triggered by a complaint from the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), targeted websites operating outside copyright regulations.
Domains affected include val9ja.com.ng, tunesloaded.com.ng, voxnaija.com.ng, music.360media.com.ng, medianub.com.ng, naijalevels.com.ng, and mp3juice.com.ng. All have now been taken offline by their respective registrars.
According to the NCC’s Special Taskforce Against Online Piracy (STOP), the platforms were actively sharing unlicensed Nigerian and foreign music and audiovisual content, depriving creators and investors of legitimate earnings and weakening authorised streaming services.
The Commission said the action aligns with its robust enforcement strategy under the Copyright Act, 2022, which grants strengthened authority to tackle copyright violations across online platforms.
“The NCC is committed to maintaining a secure and lawful digital environment that supports Nigeria’s creative industry,” the agency said in a statement.
Director-General of the NCC, Dr. John Asein, said the suspensions reaffirm Nigeria’s resolve to combat digital piracy. He applauded NiRA and involved registrars for their cooperation and urged the public to report suspicious websites via stop.copyright.gov.ng.
He added that the Commission recently shut down MovieBox.ng, another major platform known for streaming pirated movies, music, and live sports content.
