Nasarawa Police Foil Alleged Kidney-Harvesting Scheme, Rescue Four Young Men

Police authorities in Nasarawa State say they have uncovered a disturbing organ-trafficking attempt in Lafia, leading to the arrest of a suspected organ harvester and the rescue of four intended victims.

Commissioner of Police, CP Shettima Mohammed Jauro, identified the suspect as 40-year-old Maro Ebojoh, who was apprehended at Yahaya Sabo Motor Park, Bukan Sidi, where he was allegedly coordinating the illegal harvesting of kidneys from unsuspecting young men.

The victims, Umar Ahmed Barau (25), Suleman Alhaji-Garba (20), Williams Dadung (32), and Stanley Ezekiel (27), were reportedly enticed with offers of ₦2 million each for their organs, with an initial deposit of ₦500,000 paid to solidify the arrangement.

According to the Commissioner, Police operatives raided a hotel where the victims were kept “on medical rest” while awaiting further screening for the illicit procedure. The men have since been transferred to a medical facility in Abuja for evaluation.

The suspect allegedly confessed to arranging a kidney donor just two months earlier, earning ₦1 million while paying the donor ₦2.5 million.

In a related crackdown, nine robbery suspects were arrested in Mararaba and surrounding communities for coordinated nighttime attacks involving phone snatching, bank transfers from victims’ accounts, and the murder of a police officer’s son.

CP Jauro warned residents to be cautious, noting that organ traffickers are increasingly targeting vulnerable youths engaged in menial jobs. Investigations continue.
