Midnight Flames Snuff Out Lives of Two Sisters in Ondo Tragedy

Fire outbreak has claimed the lives of two young sisters in Ondo State, throwing their family and community into mourning.
Global Mirror News gathered that the tragic incident occurred on March 18, 2026, at a residence on Olaribigbe Street in the Zion Area of Ode-Aye, Okitipupa Local Government Area.
The victims, six-year-old Queen Ohwo and her four-year-old sister, Everlyne Ohwo, were reportedly trapped inside their home when the fire broke out. Both children died in the blaze before help could reach them.
According to a statement issued by the Ondo State Police Command through its spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the remains of the victims were recovered and deposited at a health facility in Ode-Aye. Their parents were said to be in deep shock and emotional distress following the incident.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire may have resulted from negligence during cooking activities. However, the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, has directed a thorough investigation to establish the exact cause of the fire.
Police authorities have secured the scene, while the Divisional Police Officer in Ode-Aye has been tasked with obtaining witness statements and working with fire service officials to determine how the fire started and spread.
The Police Command also expressed condolences to the grieving family and urged residents to take fire safety seriously. They advised against leaving cooking unattended, keeping flammable materials away from open flames, and ensuring children are not left alone in environments where fire hazards are present.
The tragedy underscores the urgent need for heightened awareness around fire prevention in homes, especially where young children are involved.
