MC Oluomo Reclaims NURTW Secretariat in Abuja, Inspects Damage After Rival Takeover

The leadership crisis rocking the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) escalated on Tuesday March 24, as its National President, Musiliu Akinsanya, popularly known as MC Oluomo, regained control of the Union’s National Secretariat in Abuja.
Akinsanya’s return to the facility comes barely 24 hours after a rival faction led by Tajudeen Baruwa stormed and occupied the premises, citing court rulings allegedly in his favour.
Global Mirror News gathered that in a video circulated by TVC, Akinsanya was seen inspecting the Secretariat and assessing the extent of damage to property following the brief takeover. His visit signals a reassertion of authority amid the intensifying leadership tussle within the powerful transport Union.
Baruwa, who had earlier addressed Journalists during Monday’s occupation, maintained that his faction acted within the bounds of the law, insisting that multiple court judgments, including appellate rulings, backed their move to reclaim the office.
He said his group had notified law enforcement authorities prior to the takeover and stressed that the action was peaceful and not intended to provoke violence. However, he alleged that one of his supporters was attacked during the process and is currently receiving medical attention.
Despite the confrontation, Baruwa expressed openness to reconciliation, noting that the Union remained committed to lawful conduct.
Meanwhile, Global Mirror News gathered that Akinsanya has strongly rejected the legitimacy of the takeover, describing it as unlawful and premature. In a statement, he clarified that he was not a party to the judgment being enforced by the rival faction and disclosed that the ruling had already been appealed, with a stay of execution in effect.
He further assured members that security Agencies were monitoring the situation and urged calm as legal proceedings continue.
The unfolding standoff underscores deep divisions within the NURTW, with both factions relying on conflicting legal interpretations to justify their claims to leadership and control of the Union’s National Headquarters.
