Mass Arrests in Turkey as Security Forces Disrupt Alleged IS New Year Attack Plots

Turkish security forces have arrested at least 115 suspected members of the Islamic State (IS) group in a Nationwide operation aimed at preventing potential attacks during New Year celebrations, authorities confirmed on Wednesday.

The coordinated raids were carried out across multiple provinces, targeting individuals believed to be part of active IS cells allegedly planning assaults on crowded public areas, nightlife districts, and other high-traffic locations expected to host end-of-year festivities.

Security sources said the operations followed weeks of intelligence gathering and surveillance, enabling law enforcement Agencies to move swiftly and simultaneously to neutralize the suspected threat.

During the raids, authorities reportedly recovered weapons, extremist propaganda, digital devices, and documents believed to be linked to terrorist planning and recruitment.

Turkey has experienced several deadly attacks in the past attributed to IS, particularly during major public holidays, prompting heightened security measures during festive seasons.

In response to the latest threat, authorities have increased patrols, reinforced checkpoints, and deployed additional security personnel Nationwide to safeguard residents and visitors.
