Man Hacked to Death in Ogun Cult Clash

Panic gripped Atan-Ota in Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State on Sunday after suspected cultists hacked a man, identified as Moses, to death during a violent clash.

Eyewitnesses said the attackers, believed to be members of the Aye Confraternity, ambushed Moses and struck him repeatedly with machetes.

A viral video showed the assailants chopping his wrist while chanting in pidgin, “We are the ones in charge.”

Residents described the killing as “terrifying” and called for urgent security intervention to prevent further bloodshed.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for Ogun State Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, said simply: “Yes.”

Although cult clashes in Ogun have reduced in recent months, the killing adds to the rising death toll linked to cultism in the South-West.

In neighbouring Lagos, more than 10 people were murdered/hacked in similar attacks within 10 days.

Security operatives are now under pressure to intensify operations in Atan-Ota and other flashpoints to curb the menace.
