Makinde Reshuffles Cabinet, Replaces SSG, Names New Appointments

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved a cabinet reshuffle that includes the removal of the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) and the appointment of new Senior Officials, in a move aimed at strengthening Governance and Policy delivery across the State.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Governor’s Special Adviser on Media, Dr Sulaimon Olanrewaju, Professor Olanike Kudirat Adeyemo was relieved of her duties as Secretary to the State Government with immediate effect.

Governor Makinde subsequently appointed Professor Musibau Adetunji Babatunde as the new SSG.

As part of the reshuffle, Barrister Temilolu Seun Ashamu was redeployed from the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources to the Ministry of Budget and Economic Planning.

The Governor also announced his Senior Special Assistant on Public Works, Ademola Aderinto, as a Commissioner-designate. Aderinto is to be presented to the Oyo State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation in line with Constitutional provisions.

Further appointments approved by the Governor include Honourable Abiodun Adedoja as Special Adviser on Energy Security and Kolawole Elijah Akanmu as Senior Special Assistant on Budget and Economic Planning.

Profile of the New SSG

Professor Musibau Adetunji Babatunde is a seasoned economist and academic from the Department of Economics, University of Ibadan.

He previously served as Chief Economic Adviser to Governor Makinde during the administration’s first term and later held the position of Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning.

An alumnus of the University of Ibadan, Babatunde earned his Bachelor of Science, Master’s, and PhD Degrees in Economics from the Institution.

He was awarded his doctorate on June 30, 2007, and joined the university as an Assistant Lecturer on November 1, 2006.

He is currently a Professor in the Department of Economics.

In September 2005, he received the World Trade Organization (WTO) Doctoral Internship Visiting Scholar Support Award in Geneva, Switzerland.

He also emerged as the Overall Best Graduating Student in the Master of Science Degree Programme in Economics at the University of Ibadan and won the African Economic Research Consortium (AERC), Nairobi, Collaborative PhD Scholarship Award.

Babatunde’s International experience includes serving as Director on the Industrial Policy Course in Africa and Domestic Resource Mobilisation for Investment for African policymakers at the United Nations African Institute for Economic Development and Planning (IDEP) in Dakar, Senegal.

His consultancy portfolio spans several national and Sub-national economic assignments, including the National Factsheet on the Impact of the Economic Partnership Agreement on selected sectors of the Nigerian economy, export supply response capacity constraints, and output market initiatives.

In the public sector, he has served as Chief Consultant on the Niger State Economic Development Strategy in December 2008 and as Coordinating Consultant on the Niger State Vision 3:2020 and Local Governments Vision 3:2020 documents in March 2010.

The latest cabinet adjustments underscore Governor Makinde’s ongoing efforts to recalibrate his administration for improved economic planning, energy security, and infrastructure delivery in Oyo State.
