Lone Survivor: Mother, Three Sons Slain in Benue Herdsmen Attack, Child Fights for Life

A horrifying attack in the early hours of Tuesday, April 7, 2026, has left a mother and three of her sons dead, while a young child fights for his life in a Benue hospital.
The suspected armed herdsmen struck the family compound in Imande Dem settlement, along Gbajimba Road in Uvir Council Ward of Guma Local Government Area, catching the household off guard while residents were asleep.
The brutal raid has plunged the community into mourning and reignited fears over repeated violence in the region.
Residents told Global Mirror News that the attackers specifically targeted the household of Mrs. Utsuwa Chicha. The surviving child, a little boy, reportedly sustained gunshot wounds and was rushed to a medical facility, where doctors performed emergency surgery to remove bullets lodged in his body.
Community members disclosed that Mrs. Chicha’s husband had been killed in a previous attack, leaving the family already vulnerable. Neighbours described the tragedy as a devastating blow, heightening concerns about insecurity in the area.
Following the assault, local residents and security personnel coordinated the evacuation of the bodies of the deceased. The injured child continues to receive medical care and is reported to be in stable condition.
As of filing this report, security authorities had not issued an official statement regarding the attack.
