LGSC Boss Commends Abeokuta South Council for Unity, Efficiency

…Onabanjo hails teamwork among political leaders and civil servants; Balogun praises Commission’s commitment to staff welfare.

The Chairman of the Ogun State Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Ms. Olivia Olubukunola Onabanjo, has commended the workforce of Abeokuta South Local Government for sustaining a harmonious working relationship between Political Office holders and Career Officers, describing the synergy as a model for effective and efficient grassroots governance.

Ms. Onabanjo gave the commendation during a one-day working visit to the Local Government Secretariat at Ake, Abeokuta, on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, as part of the Commission’s continuous engagement with Council workers across the State.

The LGSC Chairman noted that the Executive Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon. Olaniyi Afeez Balogun, had spoken highly of the Council’s workforce, particularly their dedication, discipline, and teamwork. “I am impressed by the level of cooperation between the Political Office holders and Career Officers here,” Onabanjo said. “The Executive Chairman’s commendation reflects your commitment to duty. I urge you to sustain this positive attitude because the reward for good work is more work.”

She encouraged all staff to uphold due process, punctuality, and discipline while embracing the Commission’s core values of Integrity, Discipline, Professionalism, and Passion for Excellence in Local Government Service delivery.

In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary of the Commission, Engr. Olanike Ogunbona (FNSE), commended the staff for their conduct and urged them to pursue further education and professional qualifications to enhance their career growth. She advised them to continuously upgrade their skills to remain relevant and avoid stagnation in service.

Speaking earlier, the Acting Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), Mr. Babatunde Folarin Adesina, appreciated the Governor of Ogun State, Prince (Dr.) Dapo Abiodun, CON, for the prompt payment of Salaries and Leave Bonuses. He also thanked the Commission for ensuring the timely conduct of promotion exercises and release of letters to qualified officers.

Adesina highlighted the cordial working relationship between the Political Leaders and Career Officers, attributing the Council’s progress to the leadership of Hon. Balogun, who has provided essential work tools such as laptops, stationery, and electricity restoration at the secretariat. “The Executive Chairman has created an enabling environment that enhances staff productivity and morale,” he said.

Addressing journalists after the closed-door meeting with the Commission, Hon. Olaniyi Afeez Balogun appreciated the LGSC for its commitment to staff welfare and its efforts to strengthen Local Government Administration across the State.

“We are grateful to the Commission for visiting Local governments to assess staff well-being and working relationships between Politicians and Career Officers. This kind of engagement keeps the system vibrant and accountable,” Balogun stated.

He assured that his administration would continue to prioritize staff welfare, capacity building, and collaboration with the Commission to sustain the current level of productivity and unity.

The meeting was attended by the LGSC Chairman, Full-Time Commissioners, Permanent Secretary, Directors of the Commission, Political Functionaries, and Career Officers of Abeokuta South Local Government.
