LASTMA Dismisses, Demotes 19 Officers in Misconduct Crackdown

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has dismissed and demoted 19 of its Officers following findings of misconduct, reinforcing the State Government’s stance on discipline and accountability within Public Service.

Global Mirror News gathered that the disciplinary action, which received the approval of the Lagos State Civil Service Commission, affected Officers found guilty of various offences during internal investigations carried out in 2025.

Five Officers were dismissed from service, nine were demoted, while others received stern warning letters.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, said the sanctions were part of sustained efforts to sanitise traffic management operations in Lagos and restore public confidence in the Agency.

He noted that the authority operates a zero-tolerance policy toward unprofessional conduct, abuse of office and actions that undermine efficient traffic control in the State.

According to Bakare-Oki, LASTMA has strengthened its internal monitoring system by deploying surveillance officers in plain clothes to observe field operatives and report infractions.

Complaints from members of the public, he added, are thoroughly investigated before disciplinary measures are applied.

He stressed that the recent sanctions should serve as a deterrent to other officers and a reminder that professionalism, integrity and respect for traffic laws remain non-negotiable values of the Agency.

The move aligns with the Lagos State Government’s broader reforms aimed at improving service delivery across Ministries, Departments and Agencies, particularly those that interface directly with the public on a daily basis.

LASTMA reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the free flow of traffic, reducing road congestion and promoting road safety across the metropolis, assuring residents that Officers who act outside the law will continue to face appropriate consequences.
