According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred on Wednesday when two men got into a fight, which escalated into a violent confrontation. A social media user, @JackFleet, raised the alarm on X, claiming that street urchins had taken over the Area and were stabbing innocent people.

However, the Police Command’s spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, dismissed the claim, stating that the incident was not a case of street urchins taking over the Area but rather a fight between two individuals. Hundeyin confirmed that the suspect, Ebuka Adindu, had been arrested and was in custody for further necessary actions.

In a follow-up statement, Hundeyin clarified that the incident was not a tribal clash, as was being speculated, but rather a fight between two individuals, Ebuka Adindu from Abia State and Sodiq Ibrahim from Kogi State. Adindu allegedly stabbed Ibrahim to death and then stabbed himself on the shoulder, becoming unconscious. Ibrahim was pronounced dead at the scene, while Adindu was rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The Police stressed that the incident was purely between miscreants and hoodlums and that no innocent lives were lost, no other injuries were recorded, and no goods or property in the market were destroyed. Normalcy has been restored, and the Police are urging residents to remain law-abiding and cooperate with the command to sustain existing peace in the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, has called on Lagos State residents to go about their businesses and lawful endeavors without fear or apprehension, emphasizing that Lagos is generally a peaceful State. The suspect will be prosecuted after he has been discharged from the hospital.

The Police Command has assured the public that they are working to ensure the safety and security of all residents and visitors in the State. The command has also urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward and assist with the investigation.

The incident has caused concern among residents and market traders in the Area, but the Police have assured them that everything is under control. The market has resumed normal operations, and traders are going about their businesses as usual.

The Lagos State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and order in the state and has urged residents to report any suspicious activity to the police.
