Lagos Security Incident Turns Deadly as Soldier Dies After Violent Attack

A routine security intervention in the Imota Area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, has resulted in tragedy following the death of a Nigerian Army Officer assaulted while attempting to calm a disturbance.

Global Mirror News learnt that the Officer, serving under the 81 Division, stepped into a tense scene on November 16, 2025, when a man described as mentally unstable suddenly attacked him, striking his head with a heavy wooden log.

Lieutenant Colonel Musa Yahaya, Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, confirmed the development on Tuesday, noting that troops nearby swiftly subdued the attacker, retrieved the Officer’s weapon, and rushed him to the Ikorodu General Hospital. He was declared dead shortly after arrival.

The fallen soldier has since been buried according to Islamic rites, with Senior Officers and colleagues attending the solemn ceremony.
“The Nigerian Army deeply mourns this loss and extends condolences to the family,” Lt. Col. Yahaya said, assuring that a formal investigation is now underway.

He urged members of the public to report unusual behaviour around security personnel to prevent further incidents and to allow ongoing inquiries to progress without interference.
