Lagos Mobile Courts Remand Six Over Violent Attack on LASTMA Officials, Impound 56 Vehicles

Lagos State Mobile Courts have ordered the remand of six suspected miscreants following a violent attack on officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other allied Agencies during a midnight enforcement operation along the busy Airport Road axis of the metropolis.

The suspects were apprehended after an operation carried out to restore order and enforce traffic and environmental regulations in the Area.

According to LASTMA, seven individuals were initially arrested in connection with the incident. One of the suspects pleaded not guilty and was granted bail, while the remaining six were remanded in custody pending further proceedings.

The suspects were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate of the Lagos State Mobile Court on a four-count charge bordering on assault, obstruction of lawful duty, and destruction of public property.

The court subsequently adjourned the matter to February 19, 2026, for further hearing.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA, Mr. Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed that the enforcement exercise was led by the Agency’s General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, in collaboration with security operatives, the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) Corps, the Lagos State Task Force, and LASTMA field officers.

Taofiq explained that the operation followed a formal complaint from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), which raised concerns over the persistent encroachment on its facilities by criminal syndicates and non-compliant commercial bus operators operating in violation of existing regulations.

During the operation, five officers attached to the joint task force reportedly sustained injuries after being attacked with dangerous weapons by the suspects.

In a further escalation, one of LASTMA’s tow trucks was allegedly set on fire in what authorities described as a deliberate attempt to sabotage the enforcement exercise and undermine state authority.

As part of the operation, no fewer than 56 vehicles were impounded for various traffic and environmental offences. These included 44 commercial buses, five private vehicles, and seven trucks.

Reaffirming the State Government’s stance, Bakare-Oki warned that Lagos would not tolerate acts of violence, intimidation, or lawlessness.

He stressed that the Government remains committed to protecting public infrastructure, ensuring road safety, and maintaining law and order across the State.

He further assured residents that enforcement operations along critical corridors in Lagos would continue unabated, in strict compliance with the law and in collaboration with sister agencies, to curb criminal activities and protect lives and property.
