Lagos Implements Traffic Diversions Ahead of Ajegunle City Youth Marathon

The Lagos State Government has rolled out a comprehensive traffic management plan ahead of the Ajegunle City Youth Marathon, scheduled for Saturday, December 13, kicking off at 6:00 a.m.

The marathon, organized by the Society for Information and Human Advancement, is expected to attract hundreds of runners from across the city.

In a statement posted on the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation’s X account, authorities announced that partial road closures will be enforced along key routes to ensure the safety of participants and ease traffic congestion during the event.

The roads affected include Maracana Stadium area, Ojoku Street, Baale Road, Kirikiri Road, Wilmer Link Bridge, Okito Street, Kopariwo Street, Mba/Cardoso Street, Cemetery Street, Ojora Street, Oduduwa Street, Layinka Street, Bakare Faro Street, Adejiyan Street, Ishaga Street, Onishapa Street, Itire Street, and Ojo Road, culminating at Signal Barracks, the marathon finish line.

Traffic management teams from LASTMA (Lagos State Traffic Management Authority), the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, and Lagos State Neighbourhood Corps will be deployed along the marathon route.

While some junctions will be temporarily closed, authorities assured that these will be reopened at intervals to allow controlled traffic flow.

Motorists have been advised to make use of alternative routes to avoid delays. Suggested detours include diverting from Berger/Apapa-Oshodi Expressway toward Olodi Apapa via Industrial Road, Idewu Street, Oluwa Street, and Tolu Road before reconnecting to Baale Road.

Additional contraflow measures are in place along Cemetery Road, and travelers from Suru-Alaba toward Ojo Road are encouraged to use Charles Avenue and Ligali Street.

The Lagos State Government appealed to residents and commuters to cooperate with traffic authorities to ensure a smooth and safe marathon event.

Authorities emphasized that the traffic adjustments aim to balance the excitement of the sporting event with minimal disruption to city traffic.
