Lagos Bus Crash Kills One, Injures Six

A routine morning journey turned deadly for passengers of a Volkswagen commercial bus in Majidun, inward Ogolonto, leaving one dead and six critically injured on Saturday 15th November, 2025.

The bus, registered EPE 494 XM, collided violently with a stationary tipper truck parked opposite MRS Filling Station after its brakes reportedly failed.

The bus was en route to a scheduled programme in Ogijo when disaster struck. Eyewitnesses described a terrifying scene as the vehicle “sped uncontrollably” before smashing into the truck.

An adult female passenger died instantly, while five women and one man were rushed to Benic Special Hospital, their injuries described as life-threatening.

LASTMA operatives responded immediately, detaining both the bus and tipper truck drivers. The tipper driver had attempted to flee the scene, only to be apprehended by authorities. Both are now in the custody of Ipakodo Police Division for further investigation.

Speaking on the tragedy, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki expressed profound grief over the loss. He extended condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured. “Excessive speed is a silent killer,” he warned, urging motorists to exercise caution and maintain their vehicles to prevent sudden mechanical failures.

Residents in the area recalled the chaos immediately after the crash. One witness, Mrs. Funke Adeyemi, said, “The noise was deafening. People were screaming, and everyone rushed to help the injured.

It was horrifying.” Another bystander, Mr. Tunde Adebayo, added, “The bus looked like it hit the tipper with full force. If someone wasn’t at the right spot, more lives could have been lost.”
