Kogi Recruits 1,050 Hunters, Absorbs Vigilantes Into Civil Service to Strengthen Security

In a bold step to reinforce security across Kogi State, Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo has approved the recruitment of 1,050 hunters and the formal absorption of vigilante operatives into the State Civil Service.

The Governor, represented by the Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, Mukadam Asiru Asiwaju, announced the development during a three-day capacity-building programme in Lokoja organised to drive the implementation of the State’s 32-year Development Plan (2024–2056).

Ododo noted that his administration has recorded substantial progress in its first two years, especially in economic development, infrastructure expansion and social welfare enhancement.

He highlighted the successful revival of the Confluence Rice Mill, which has supported more than 7,000 rice farmers through grants and soft loans, creating jobs and boosting food production across the state.

The Governor further disclosed that the State is currently working on completing over 500 kilometres of roads, restoring water supply infrastructure, and installing solar-powered streetlights in multiple communities to enhance security and improve living conditions.

In health and education, the Government has widened access to free healthcare, expanded learning support, and launched empowerment programmes targeted at women and young people.

Ododo emphasised that every ongoing and future project must align with the 32-year development plan to ensure lasting and coordinated growth. He urged participants at the training session to apply the knowledge gained to advance Kogi’s long-term vision for full development by 2056.
