Kidnapped Pastor’s Daughter Freed After Harrowing Ordeal in Oyo
Mrs. Ibukunoluwa Otesile, the daughter of Rev. Dr. Lekan Babatunde, General Overseer of Jesus Is King Ministries, has regained her freedom days after she was abducted by armed men in the Akobo area of Ibadan, Oyo State.
Otesile, who also serves as the 2025 President of Junior Chamber International (JCI) Ibadan Elite, was kidnapped on Thursday, December 4, while returning home in the General Gas neighbourhood of Akobo. Eyewitnesses said the armed men trailed her vehicle before forcing her into their car and speeding off, leaving residents terrified.
Her abduction sparked widespread concern among church members, youth groups, and civic organisations, who launched coordinated prayers and advocacy campaigns demanding her safe release.
In a statement confirming her freedom, the Child Protection Network (CPN) expressed relief and gratitude, noting that Otesile was reunited with her family in stable condition. The organisation praised community members, partners, and security agencies for their support during the tense period.
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Oyo State chapter, also confirmed her release, announcing that she was dropped off unharmed around Agbowo Expressway in Ibadan on Wednesday night. CAN described her return as “an answer to prayers,” urging the government to intensify efforts to combat rising insecurity across the State.
Although the Oyo State Police Command had earlier verified the kidnapping and opened an investigation, authorities have not disclosed details regarding her rescue or whether a ransom was paid.
Otesile’s ordeal adds to growing concerns about the surge in kidnappings in parts of Oyo State and across Nigeria, with security experts calling for more proactive intelligence-driven operations to dismantle kidnapping networks.
As at the time of filing this report, police investigations are still ongoing.
