Kano Hospital in Turmoil as Three Health Workers Suspended Over Housewife’s Post-Surgery Death

Kano State Health Authorities have suspended three hospital staff following the death of a housewife, Aishatu Umar, who reportedly died after developing complications from a surgical procedure at the Abubakar Imam Urology Centre in Kano.

Global Mirror News gathered that the suspension was ordered by the Kano State Hospitals Management Board after a preliminary investigation established that the woman’s death occurred within the Government-owned facility and was linked to lapses in her medical care.

In a statement issued by the Board’s Public Relations Officer, Samira Suleiman, the Executive Secretary, Dr. Mansur Mudi Nagoda, approved the immediate suspension of the affected staff pending the outcome of a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The Board disclosed that the case has been referred to the Kano State Medical Ethical Committee for a detailed probe to determine the level of professional responsibility and recommend appropriate disciplinary measures in line with medical ethics and State regulations.

Global Mirror News gathered that the late Aishatu Umar had complained of severe abdominal pain following the surgery before her condition deteriorated, eventually leading to her death — a development that triggered public concern and allegations of medical negligence.

While extending condolences to the bereaved family, the Kano State Hospitals Management Board reaffirmed its commitment to patient safety, accountability, and strict adherence to professional standards, warning that any form of negligence within the public health system will not be tolerated.
