Kano Community Assault: Nine Bandits, One Vigilante Dead in Fierce Gun Battle

Nine bandits were reportedly killed in a fierce gun battle between the Nigerian Military and armed criminals in Bakaji and Unguwar Garma communities within the Goron Dutse area of Shanono Local Government Area, Kano State.

The clash, which erupted late on Saturday, also claimed the life of a local vigilante and left another wounded.

According to Yahya Bagobiri, Chairman of the Shanono/Bagwai Community Security Forum, the bandits launched an attack on the communities and engaged Military personnel in an intense firefight that lasted several hours.

Despite the heavy fire, the criminals managed to escape with six abducted residents and approximately 40 cows.

“The Military killed several bandits and recovered motorcycles, but the criminals returned around 5 a.m.–6 a.m., opening heavy fire on the troops. Although they were in large numbers, they could not penetrate the area fully.

Sadly, six persons were abducted and 40 cows rustled, but nine bandits were neutralized, and many motorcycles were left behind,” Bagobiri told Global Mirror News.

He further praised the Military for their bravery, saying, “The troops safeguarded the Area, preventing further havoc. At that time, nobody could even leave their homes. Their actions deserve commendation.”

Capt. Babatunde Zubairu, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, also confirmed the incident.

He stated that troops recovered three motorcycles and two mobile phones stained with blood.

While he could not confirm the exact number of bandits killed, he affirmed that one vigilante was injured during the confrontation.

This latest clash follows an earlier Military operation in October, when troops of the Joint Task Force Operation MESA, led by the 3 Brigade Nigerian Army, neutralized 19 bandits in Shanono Local Government Area.
