Islamic Cleric Abducted, Killed by Bandits in Zamfara Community

Global Mirror News has gathered that suspected bandits have killed a respected Islamic cleric, Alhaji Zainu Mada, in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, further underscoring the fragile security situation in the State.

The Islamic cleric was reportedly abducted by armed men along the Kotorkoshi–Mada Road several days ago before he was eventually killed by his captors, according to sources.

Condemning the incident, the Chairman of Gusau Local Government Area, Abubakar Imam, described the killing as tragic and unacceptable.

He spoke during a condolence visit to the family of the deceased, accompanied by a member of the Zamfara State House of Assembly representing Gusau II Constituency, Hon. Ibrahim Liman.

Prayers were offered for the late cleric, with Imam appealing to Almighty Allah to forgive his shortcomings and grant him Aljannah Firdaus.

Funeral prayers for Alhaji Zainu Mada were held on Friday January 23 evening in his hometown of Mada, where hundreds of residents, religious leaders and sympathisers gathered to pay their final respects.

Global Mirror News reports that Mada town remains a hotspot of banditry in Zamfara State, a situation often linked to its commercial activities. Repeated attacks in the area have claimed several lives, while millions of naira have reportedly been paid as ransom over time.

Efforts by Global Mirror News to obtain comments from the Zamfara State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Yazid Abubakar, were unsuccessful, as his phone lines were unreachable as of the time of filing this report.
