Immigration Officer Dismissed for Masterminding Brother’s Abduction
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has dismissed a Junior officer, Chukwu Nancy Ngozi, after internal investigations revealed that she masterminded the abduction of her elder brother in Enugu State.
The shocking incident, which has stirred public outrage, unfolded after the Enugu State Police Command arrested Nancy and her sister, Juliet Chukwu, an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), for their alleged role in the kidnap of their own brother along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway earlier this year. Reports say the kidnappers collected a ransom of ₦30 million before releasing the victim.
Following the arrests, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board (CDCFIB) convened a disciplinary panel to review cases of gross misconduct within the NIS.
According to the findings, Nancy was found guilty of criminal conspiracy, kidnapping, theft, and illegal possession of firearms, alongside another junior officer, Aliyu Usman. Both were subsequently dismissed from service for violating public trust and tarnishing the image of the institution.
In a statement released by the NIS Public Relations Office, the Service reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward corruption and criminal behaviour among its personnel. “The dismissal underscores our unwavering commitment to integrity, discipline, and accountability in line with our core values,” the statement read.
The disciplinary board, which sat on April 14 and September 4, 2025, also reviewed 31 cases of misconduct involving officers across different ranks, resulting in several dismissals, demotions, retirements, and warnings.
The NIS assured the public that it will continue to sanitize its ranks and cooperate fully with law enforcement agencies handling criminal investigations involving its staff.
As of press time, both Nancy and Juliet Chukwu remain in police custody and are expected to face formal charges in court in the coming weeks.
