IMEKO-AFON: HON OLORODE PRESENTS 2026 PROPOSED BUDGET TO LEGISLATIVE COUNCIL

In his commitment to qualitative leadership and preparedness for a productive year ahead, ensuring accountability, strategic planning and to promote efficient resource allocation, the Executive Chairman, Imeko Afon Local Government, Hon. Theophilus Aremu Olorode has today, presented a budget proposal for the year 2026 to the Legislative Council of the Local Government.

Declaring the session open on behalf of the Leader of the Legislative House, the Majority Leader, Hon. Omoyayi Nurudeen, welcomed everyone present and commended the high-level cooperation that has so far existed between the Legislative and Executive arm of this great Local Government.
Presenting the budget proposal at the Legislative Chamber of the Secretariat, Hon Olorode disclosed that the 2026 budget, tagged “Budget of Consolidation”, is aimed at improving socio-economic development and strengthening infrastructural growth across the Local Government.

The total projected revenue for 2026 stands at N10,953,418,800, up from N6.28 billion approved in 2025. Of the 2026 projection, statutory allocation from the Federation and State Government is expected to account for approximately 94 per cent, while internally generated revenue (IGR) is projected at N83.55 million, representing 53.65 per cent increase from the previous year’s projection.

Under the 2026 proposal, recurrent expenditure is projected at N9.45 billion, covering personnel cost, pensions, overheads and statutory obligations, while capital expenditure is estimated at N1.51 billion to fund infrastructure and development projects.

Breakdown of recurrent expenditure shows allocations for primary school teachers’ salaries, local government staff salaries, pensions, gratuities, traditional council contributions, and service commissions. Capital expenditure will focus on infrastructural development and consolidation of ongoing projects.

The Council also revealed that during the 2025 fiscal year, the bulk of federal allocations received was expended on payment of primary school teachers’ salaries and staff obligations, while N200 million received as grants from the State Government was utilized for capital projects.
The Council Boss expressed optimism that improved revenue generation strategies would enhance service delivery and deepen democratic dividends to residents in 2026.
He also appealed for a total cooperation from the Legislative Chamber and the total support of both the staff of the Local Government and residents of the Local Government at large in order to be able to achieve and surpass the target set out in the Budget.
The Leader of the House, Hon Balogun Olajide John, while officially receiving the Copy of the Budget of Consolidation, commended the Executive Chairman for his drive for excellence in this administration. He however promised that the Legislative House will collectively peruse the proposal and would ensure prompt ratification and passage into Law.
While delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the Executive Chairman, the Supervisor for Information and Community, Hon Aliu Adio Onsa, appreciated the honourable house for satisfactorily discharging it’s duties towards the development of the Local Government.

Present at the Budget presentation were, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Monday Sangobunmi, the Secretary to the Local Government, Hon. Nafiu Olawale Abimbola. All Honourable members of the Legislative House representing the various Wards of the Local Government were in attendance. Also present were all Supervisors and special advisers of the Local Government.

Also at the crucial session was the Head of Local Government Administration, Barr Lekan Ogunbamowo and other Directors of the various Departments of the Local Government.
