IGP Transition: Abiodun Hails Egbetokun’s Service, Charts Reform Priorities for Disu

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has congratulated the immediate past Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, following the acceptance of his resignation by President Bola Tinubu, commending his tenure as one marked by professionalism and dedication to National Service.

In a statement personally signed, the Governor described Egbetokun as a distinguished son of Ogun State whose years of commitment to the Nigeria Police Force contributed significantly to strengthening internal security architecture across the Country. He lauded the former Police Chief’s discipline, leadership, and institutional reforms, noting that his service remains a source of pride to Ogun people and Nigerians at large.

Abiodun wished Egbetokun success in his future endeavours, particularly as he turns attention to pressing family responsibilities.

The Governor also extended warm congratulations to the newly appointed Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Tunji Disu, expressing optimism that his experience and operational expertise would inject renewed focus into the Force at a critical juncture in Nigeria’s security landscape.

He urged the new Police Helmsman to prioritise intelligence-led policing strategies, enhance officers’ welfare, deepen community-based security engagement, and foster stronger inter-agency collaboration as part of a comprehensive approach to combating crime Nationwide.

According to Abiodun, rebuilding public trust in the Nigeria Police Force must remain central to the new leadership’s mandate. He stressed the need to strengthen professionalism, enforce internal discipline, deploy technology-driven crime detection systems, and uphold accountability mechanisms to reposition the Force as a responsive and citizen-oriented institution.

The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s continued support for the Federal Government’s efforts to consolidate National security reforms and ensure that the Nigeria Police Force effectively discharges its constitutional responsibilities in safeguarding lives and property.
