Hon. Majekodunmi Sympathises With Marketers At The Lipede Kuto Market

Chairman of Abeokuta South Local Government, Hon Omolaja Ayodele Majekodunmi JP has expressed his sympathy to the traders at Oba Lipede Kuto, whose goods were burnt down last night over the fire which broke out at the late hour of Saturday 13th July 2024 in the Market Complex.
Hon Majekodunmi explained that he got the call around 10:30 pm that the Complex was on fire and in a swift response swung into action by contacting the fire service station and other concerned Agencies. The fire was later put out by the firefighters in the wee hours of today, Sunday 14th July 2024.
The Local Government Chairman, while speaking to the affected traders expressed his heartfelt sympathy, stating that it is a devastating blow to lose their shops properties to the fire outbreak bearing in mind the financial impact. He prayed that they find the strength to recover from this setback.
Hon. Majekodunmi thanked the Nigeria Police Force who were on the ground to prevent the looting of goods by hoodlums who wanted to use the unfortunate incident to plunder.
It was narrated that the fire disaster started from a power surge from the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) when light was restored in the area around 10 pm yesterday. The inferno was escalated with the help of gas used by one of the traders.
No death was recorded, while two men injured during the rescue mission were taken to the hospital for treatment. A total of 15 shops were burnt down.
With the Executive Chairman at the site of the incident were: The Commissioner for Special Duties, Mrs Funmi Efuape, PS, Min of Environment, Dr Sam Oyeleye, Dir of Fire Service, Engr Fatai Abidemi Adifala, Dir Ogun SEMA Mr Wale Sonde, Iyaloja Egbaland Chief (Mrs) Oluwakemi Abeni Oloyede, the Iyaloja of Lipede Market, Chief Mrs Tejumade Adenekan Bakre Press Men and a host of others.
