Hidden Crimes Exposed: Police Rescue Six Children from Illegal Baby Factory
In a dramatic raid along Ise-Ekiti Road, Ekiti State Police have dismantled a clandestine baby factory, rescuing six children and arresting five individuals allegedly running the illegal operation.
The operation targeted 43-year-old Oluwadare Onyechi and her four accomplices—Onuoha Gloria (28), Victoria Linus (25), Ihegbogu Mercy (21), and a heavily pregnant Emmanuel Esther (23)—after authorities received intelligence about suspicious activity behind Inisa Hotel and Suites.
Police discovered six children, aged between two and nine, living in conditions described as exploitative.
Investigators also seized baby delivery materials, dexamethasone tablets, and bottles of Goya oil, commonly used in the illicit preparation and care of newborns for illegal sale.
Commissioner of Police Joseph Eribo emphasized the wider social implications of the operation: “This raid highlights the dangers posed by illegal baby factories and the urgent need to protect vulnerable children from exploitation.”
Illegal baby factories have emerged as a disturbing trend in Nigeria, often concealed within urban and semi-urban neighborhoods. Victims, typically newborns and infants, are trafficked or kept under coercive conditions for illegal adoption or sale.
Law enforcement agencies have vowed to continue proactive monitoring and crackdown operations to ensure such crimes are eradicated.
Experts warn that beyond law enforcement, public awareness and community vigilance are essential to prevent exploitation and protect children from being trafficked.
