Governor Alia Shakes Up Benue State Executive Council

Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has dissolved the State Executive Council, sacking all Commissioners and his Chief of Staff, Paul Biam. The decision was made on Wednesday, July 30, 2025, during the 12th State Executive Council meeting in Makurdi.

Governor Alia said the dissolution is part of a broader strategy to reinvigorate governance and ensure a more inclusive administration. He emphasized that the move is not punitive, but rather aimed at bringing new ideas and perspectives to the table.

Meanwhile, Governor Alia has appointed Moses Atagher, a seasoned Administrator and former Acting Managing Director of the Federal Mortgage Bank, as the new Chief of Staff. Atagher’s wealth of experience is expected to bring stability and effectiveness to the Governor’s office.

The outgoing Commissioners have been directed to hand over to the Permanent Secretaries. Bemsen Mnyim, former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, expressed gratitude to Governor Alia for the opportunity to serve, describing the experience as valuable.

Governor Alia called on those who may not be reappointed to remain loyal to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and continue supporting his Administration’s vision. This move is seen as a bid to maintain party unity and ensure a smooth transition.
