Gov Abiodun’s Media Chief Champions MAPOLY Press Club, Pledges Support for Journalism Excellence

The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Ogun State Governor on Public Communication, Otunba Dare Odufowokan, has reiterated his commitment to the growth and sustainability of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) Press Club, promising continuous support for its programmes and activities.

Odufowokan, a former President and Editor-In-Chief of the MAPOLY Press Club, made this known recently during a courtesy visit by the Club’s leadership to his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta. The visit aimed to strengthen mentorship and foster engagement between current and past leaders of the Press Club.

During the meeting, the Governor’s Media Chief encouraged executives to build on the club’s legacy by prioritizing members’ development and preserving long-standing traditions.

He particularly emphasized the importance of maintaining the club’s flagship publication, Fact Magazine, cautioning that changing its name could erode a vital part of the club’s journalistic heritage.

Tracing the origins of the publication, Odufowokan highlighted that the paramount ruler of Ota, His Royal Majesty Oba (Professor) Adeyemi Abdulkabir Obalanlege—an alumnus of MAPOLY’s Accountancy Department—was the Pioneer President of the Press Club and the founder of Fact Magazine.

He further urged the executives to sustain the club’s annual media tour, describing it as a critical initiative that exposes members to professional journalism practices.

In support, Odufowokan pledged to sponsor the 2026 media tour, urging the leadership to promptly develop a programme for his sponsorship.

The SSA also encouraged the club to uphold the tradition of celebrating its annual anniversary, noting that such events bring past leaders and members together while honoring memorable moments in the club’s history.

Reflecting on the institution’s past, Odufowokan recalled how MAPOLY’s renaming from Ogun Polytechnic was achieved through student advocacy, highlighting the role of alumni in sustaining campus journalism standards and values.

Speaking during the visit, former Chief Press Secretary and General Secretary of the Club, Mrs. Adenike Olowe (Nee Fayomi), praised the leadership for their efforts and urged them to continue pursuing excellence while properly managing the club’s database.

The new President of the Press Club, Oluwatomisin Ogunjobi, said the visit underscores the importance of involving former leaders in the club’s activities and struggles. Other attendees included Ex-President Lateef Gbadamosi, Editor Jelili Opeyemi, and General Secretary Hussein AbdulWahab.
