Gov. Abiodun Unveils ₦1.669 Trillion 2026 “Legacy Budget” to Transform Ogun State

Governor Dapo Abiodun presents record-breaking appropriation bill with major investments in infrastructure, education, health, housing and economic growth as Ogun targets ₦500 billion IGR

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, CON, on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, presented a historic ₦1.669 trillion 2026 Appropriation Bill to the State House of Assembly, unveiling what he described as the “Budget of Sustainable Legacy.” The proposal, the largest ever for the State, combines ambitious development plans with a strong focus on fiscal discipline and economic expansion.

Presenting the budget, Governor Abiodun said the financial blueprint was structured to accelerate infrastructure delivery, deepen human-capital development, expand social services, and strengthen the state’s industrial and commercial backbone.

  • Total Budget ₦1.669 Trillion
  • Recurrent Expenditure: ₦624.76 Billion
  • Capital Expenditure: ₦1.044 Trillion

The Capital-heavy structure places emphasis on infrastructure, urban renewal, transportation networks, and industrial expansion, a direction the Governor says is key to unlocking Ogun’s full economic competitiveness.

Sectoral Allocations & Priorities
The 2026 budget channels significant funding into:

  • Infrastructure: Largest share, covering roads, utilities, and strategic capital projects.
  • Education: Upgrades to schools, learning environments, and youth empowerment programmes.
  • Healthcare: Expanded access to medical services and improved health facilities.
  • Housing & Community Development: Enhancements in social amenities and urban development.
  • Social Welfare: Support for vulnerable groups and community-based initiatives.
  • Agriculture, Industry & SMEs: Investments aimed at job creation, economic diversification and boosting local production.

Revenue Ambition
The Abiodun Administration is targeting ₦500 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) for 2026, a figure the Governor described as bold but achievable with improved efficiency, digitalization of revenue processes and stronger coordination among MDAs.

He called on all revenue-generating Agencies to “scale up efforts and justify every allocation,” stressing that accountability and transparency will be central to the budget’s implementation.
