Gov. Abiodun Pays Tribute to OGTV Programmes Director, Akeem Akintunde

Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has mourned the passing of Alhaji Akeem Akintunde, Director of Programmes at Ogun State Television (OGTV), describing his death as a profound loss to Ogun State and Nigeria’s media industry.
In a statement issued in Abeokuta on Thursday, February 12, the Governor paid glowing tribute to the veteran broadcaster and former Chairman of the Ogun State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), characterising him as a consummate professional whose impact on sports journalism and broadcast management would remain indelible.
Governor Abiodun noted that the late Akintunde distinguished himself as a thoroughbred media practitioner and accomplished administrator, whose career was marked by discipline, innovation, and unwavering commitment to excellence.
He observed that even while battling serious health challenges, including kidney-related ailments, Akintunde remained steadfast in his dedication to duty and continued to contribute meaningfully to sports broadcasting and programming at OGTV.
The Governor described the deceased as warm, humble, and highly respected among colleagues and protégés, adding that his leadership style and mentorship helped shape a generation of broadcasters and sports reporters within and beyond Ogun State.
“As a media professional, Alhaji Akeem Akintunde was an outstanding personality — pleasant to be with and completely dedicated to his job. He was a manager of managers, a mentor to many, and a shining light in journalism and sports reporting,” Abiodun stated.
He added that Akintunde’s passage after a prolonged illness marked the end of a remarkable career defined by passion, professionalism, and an enduring legacy in sports broadcasting.
Governor Abiodun extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, friends, associates, the management and staff of OGTV, as well as members of SWAN across the state, praying for strength and comfort for all who mourn the late media icon.
“We have lost a source of joy, professionalism, and inspiration. May Almighty Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus and comfort all those he left behind,” the governor added.
Alhaji Akeem Akintunde’s death has continued to draw tributes from media practitioners and sports stakeholders who described him as a pillar in Ogun’s broadcasting landscape and a respected voice in sports journalism.
