Gov. Abiodun Gives 40 SUVs To Ogun Monarchs

Governor Dapo Abiodun has distributed 40 Sport Utility Vehicles to traditional rulers in Ogun State, while urging monarchs to help create a peaceful and welcoming environment for investors across their communities.

The vehicles were presented on Thursday April 9, during the statutory meeting of the Ogun State Council of Obas held at the Oba’s Complex in Abeokuta.

Speaking at the gathering, the Governor expressed concern over reports that some communities in Yewa South, Ipokia and Ijebu North had shown hostility toward investors seeking to establish projects in the state.

According to him, such actions could damage the State’s economy and discourage investors willing to commit billions of dollars to development projects.

Abiodun said investors coming into the state have the potential to create jobs, improve infrastructure and raise the standard of living for residents, stressing that communities should support such opportunities rather than frustrate them.

“We have received disturbing reports about the attitude of some communities during meetings with investors. This must stop. These investors are bringing huge capital that can transform our economy and provide employment for our people,” the Governor said.

He called on traditional rulers to work closely with their subjects to ensure peace and cooperation in their domains, noting that development can only thrive in an atmosphere of trust and stability.

The Governor said the role of monarchs remains critical in positioning Ogun as one of the leading investment destinations in the Country.

“Kabiyesis must help create an enabling environment. Investors should feel safe and welcome in every part of Ogun State,” he added.

Abiodun also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to protecting investments, warning that any act capable of discouraging genuine investors would not be tolerated.

On security, the Governor urged residents and traditional rulers to remain vigilant in view of growing insecurity in some parts of the Country. He advised them to promptly report suspicious movements and activities to security Agencies.

While commending the efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in tackling insecurity nationwide, Abiodun said local communities must also play their part in maintaining the peace currently enjoyed in Ogun State.

The Governor further warned traditional rulers against indiscriminate sale and allocation of land, describing land as one of the state’s most valuable resources.

“Our land is our oil. It must not be shared carelessly. Land matters must be handled with honesty and transparency if we truly want to attract investors,” he said.

He also cautioned landlords against renting out their buildings to criminals, warning that any property found to be used for illegal activities would be demolished by the Government.

In his remarks, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Ganiyu Hazmat, said the meeting was the first council session for 2026 and was aimed at discussing major issues relating to development and security.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Ogun State Council of Obas and Paramount Ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle, praised the Governor for his developmental projects and assured him of the support of traditional rulers for policies that would promote economic growth and stability in the State.

The presentation of the 40 SUVs was one of the major highlights of the meeting, with the vehicles expected to assist the monarchs in carrying out their official and community responsibilities.
